Újpesti Jégkorong Akadémia hosted one of the tournaments last time U16 teams were playing in the Bauer Elite cup, coming away with two wins from three games – an experience enjoyed by their players.
“The opponents are great, fast-paced, very well structured with an efficient offense, but we can also step up our game, if need be,” said forward Gergely Máté Rapos. “I’m expecting us to give 100% in our future games, just like we have done so far, and then we can surprise anyone.”
Rapos has had a great start to the Elite Cup but was quick to pay tribute to his teammates. “My numbers are the result of our tactics and the help of my teammates. I’m supposed to get to the front of the net, in those high-scoring areas. We did our jobs and the goals came,” he explained. “I aim to score at least one point in each game, but the important thing is to win as many games with the team, as possible.”
“Alex Ovechkin is my idol, we play in the same position. When I’m out there on the ice, I want to be like him!” the young forward concluded.
